Onsite investigations typically involve a building (e.g., sick building due to fungal mycotoxins) or area (e.g., nursery lands abandoned due to recroping problems) that is suspected of providing potential for exposure to biotoxins and human illness. The investigation may involve the collection of environmental samples for subsequent analyses for toxins, screening using exposure, symptom and previous diagnoses questionnaires and the VCS (and acuity) test, medical examinations and remediation assessment. Individuals indicated for possible chronic, biotoxin-induced illness will be referred for additional testing needed to make diagnoses, and will subsequently receive treatment. A written report on the investigation will be provided immediately after all data are analyzed.
